Therapeutic Counselling
Counselling is a helping and supporting relationship that enables the client to grow, change and develop. This is achieved by the counsellor having respect for their clients frame of reference or the way that the clients views the world. This can support the client to develop an authentic sense of self, free from conditions of worth which can limit the client to grow and develop themselves to their fullest potential.
I hold a Certificate in Therapeutic Counselling and I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I studied for 4 years to be a Person-Centred Counsellor which utilises a humanistic psychology approach to human nature.
The Person-Centred Approach (PCA) is based on the work of Carl Rogers who created this approach to therapy and counselling, which has the potential of having a powerful effect for achieving change and growth for people experiencing difficulties in their lives.
Research has shown the importance of the counselling relationship as a crucial aspect for achieving change within a person. The PCA approach focuses heavily on achieving a strong therapeutic connection between the counsellor and a client with an emphasis on good communication and listening skills.
Having unconditional positive regard for each client and their uniqueness as to how they view the world is one of the foundations for my counselling practice. Supporting them to overcome any limiting beliefs that they have created about themselves to enable them to grow and develop to their fullest potential is the aim of my therapeutic counselling.
